Juventus vs Inter: Match preview and prediction

The first of two mouth-watering clashes awaits as Juventus will take on bitter rivals Inter Milan at Juventus Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Bianconeri lost this reverse fixture earlier this season, so it goes without saying that Juve will be looking not just to preserve their strong home record, but get some revenge on the Nerazzurri for that loss. September 2015 was the last time Juventus dropped any points at their home ground, and since then, they have won a whopping 27 matches in a row at Juventus Stadium. Massimiliano Allegri has tinkered with his formation as of late and it has paid off, as he has been able to play Gonzalo Higuain, Paulo Dybala, and Mario Mandzukic all on the pitch at the same time.

It paid dividends against Lazio, AC Milan, and most recently, Sassuolo, and he certainly will be eager to test this out against Inter. Meanwhile, Stefano Pioli’s men have also been in great form, albeit this winning streak suffered a bump as they were dumped out of the Coppa Italia by Lazio. Nonetheless, Inter’s uptick in form has seen them surge up the table and now it’s the Nerazzurri looking down on cross-town rivals Milan, who have hit a rough patch as of late.

Champions League football, something that was unthinkable a few months ago, now is on the agenda. And given that Inter are out of the Europa League as well, they can focus all their efforts on finishing as high in the table as possible.

This game will also be an interesting duel between Higuain and Mauro Icardi. Both Argentinian attackers are in the running for the Capocannoniere, and both men surely will be hoping to add more to their respective totals in arguably the biggest game in Italy and one of the biggest across Europe this weekend.

  • To date, that has been the only victory for the Nerazzurri over their last 10 matches away to Juventus in Serie A (D3, L6).
  • Juventus have scored at least two goals in 14 out of their last 15 home games in Serie A action.

Juventus vs Inter Milan: Prediction

Juventus have won a whopping 27 consecutive games at Juventus Stadium. While Inter Milan a team on good spirits with their seven game winning streak in Serie A. Unfortunately one of these team’s winning streaks is bound to end. Inter drew first blood by beating Juve 2-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza earlier this season; in fact, La Vecchia Signora have lost to both Milan sides at that ground.

Pioli will be disappointed with seeing his team out of the Coppa Italia, but now Inter can throw all their efforts into trying to secure Champions League football. The Nerazzurri will surely pose a challenge for Juventus in what should be an entertaining affair from start to finish, but with their newly re-formatted attack, Juve will likely be too strong for Inter’s still shaky defense to contain.
